We will be doing peer edits of your Free Verse Poem in class on 11/16.
On Tuesday, we will begin Unit 2: Differing Perspectives (p. 154) in the literature textbook.
On Wednesday, 11/18 the final Free Verse Poetry assignment is due. Share in Google Docs with [email protected] and bring in the four pages (Page 1: Paragraph form with line breaks; Page 2: Free verse format first draft. Page 3: Loose leaf comments; Page 4: Final stanza format)
On Friday, 11/20 there will be a quiz on "Born Worker" by Gary Soto.
On Monday, 11/23 we will be reading "The Ransom of Red Chief" by O. Henry with a quiz scheduled for Wednesday, 11/25.

Homework on 12/1: finish reading "Moon" and answer questions on p. 237, writing your responses in your textbook.
On Tuesday, 12/2: Be sure you have read the remainder of "Moon" by Chaim Potok and come prepared to discuss the questions on p. 237. We will have a Quiz on "Moon" on 12/2. During class, we will begin reading The Story of Iqbal Masih by David L. Parker

Unit 2: Differing Perspectives in the literature textbook includes the following:

After each selection, there will be a short quiz.
After we complete all four stories in Unit 2 and have finished with the quizzes, we will have a UNIT TEST. There will be a Test Review Sheet given out beforehand in order to help you prepare for the test.
There will be 3 sections on the test:
1. literary terms (multiple choice)
2. questions on the selections (multiple choice)
3. short answer questions on each of the 4 stories covered in the unit (written in script and complete sentences).

REQUIREMENTS:
1. Include as much detail as possible from the Attribute Web done in class.
2. It must fill in the entire page.
3. It must be completely colored in.
4. Outline your drawing in black pencil or fine line marker (not Sharpie).
5. Attach QR Code in the lower right corner of illustration by pasting it on (no tape). Label the QR Code (e.g. "to learn more about the author, Virginia Hamilton, scan this QR Code")

Our next unit will focus on William Shakespeare's life, the Globe Theatre, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. You will be receiving a folder in which to keep all of your papers and handouts. Bring it to class every day. After each section that we cover there will be a Quiz and then a final Unit Test. The Student Resources page will post activities and resources we discuss in class.

William Shakespeare, the Globe Theatre, and A Midsummer Night's Dream
We will be continuing our unit on Shakespeare with a reading of the prose version of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Once we have completed the reading, we will have a QUIZ on Midsummer and then the UNIT TEST.
2/18: Bring in completed questions 1-5 from assignment started in class during 2/17. There will be a Quiz today on the prose version of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by Charles and Mary Lamb.
2/19: Bring in completed 8 sentences from assignment started in class during 2/18 and extra credit. In class, review for Unit Test: 2/23 (See Class Documents tab for study guides).

- Logon to your Google account @ohalincroft.com (*NOTE you must be logged into the school Google account to access Google Classroom).
- Type classroom.google.com in the browser's address bar.
- Scroll down look right and click STUDENT
- Upper right corner, on PLUS sign, select join a class. Enter your relevant code as follows Period 1: d88g16z Period 3: a18dtq
- Your stream appears. The first time you log in, there will be prompts to explain some basics of classroom. Feel free to read them.
- Your assignments will be listed in the center. Click on the document to open the file and follow the directions inside the Google Doc entitled Free write: Langston Hughes Poems. (Note: you can write beneath each of the 2 questions and leave the question there in the document.)
- When you are done, look to the top right and click TURN IT IN button. (*NOTE if you need to go back into the document and edit, just click UNSUBMIT and it will reopen the document.)
Our next unit will be in the Mirrors and Windows Literature Textbook. Be sure your textbook is on the shelf in the classroom.

Our next unit is in the Mirrors and Windows Literature Textbook. Be sure your textbook is on the shelf in the classroom - unless you need it to complete HW or prepare for quizzes or the Unit Test. We will be reading the Pulitzer Prize winning play version of The Diary of Anne Frank. Be sure to keep up with the reading since there will be quizzes after Act I and Act II and a Unit Test on the play including the Elements of Drama, literary terms, and an essay.
